Sonia Valle-Gette is a choreographer, artist and dance educator. Sonia was born and raised in Rosarito Baja California, Mexico. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences in International Business, and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences in Dance from San Diego State University in 1987. Sonia graduated with a Masters in Fine Arts in Dance from Arizona State University, where she received the Outstanding Choreographer Award by Friends of Dance and the ASU Department of Dance. Sonia has been a presenter at the American College Dance Festival, teaching Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art form incorporating dance, music and song. As a choreographer Sonia has received great reviews for her work in the San Diego Union Tribune and has been invited as guest choreographer both nationally and internationally. This is Sonia's twelfth year as program director at Paradise Valley Community College. Sonia has received nine Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction grants in the past ten years to provide learning opportunities for PVCC dance students. She was awarded the Woman of Distinction Award by the Women's Leadership Group at Paradise Valley Community College and recognized for her efforts to promote an appreciation for diversity through dance concert programming. Sonia currently works as an independent choreographer and travels both nationally and internationally to set choreographic works on different dance companies.
